After yesterday's detailed report on the new XC90, Volvo is now completely updating its popular XC60 SUV, improving both technology and premium feel. The update, which is scheduled for initial production at the end of April, aims to solidify the XC60's position as a major contender in the competitive mid-size luxury SUV segment. While the exterior design changes are not revolutionary, the subtle refinements give the XC60 a fresh look similar to that of its bigger brothers. The characteristic radiator grille receives a discreet update, proudly displaying the Iron Mark logo, while the taillights adopt a darker aesthetic. New wheel options add a touch of personalization, and two fresh exterior colors - “Forest Lake Metallic“ and “Aurora Silver Metallic“, along with the addition of “Mulberry Red“, expand the palette.
The real story, however, lies inside the cabin, where Volvo has focused on significant technological and material upgrades. At the heart of this transformation is the next-generation infotainment system built on the Android Automotive platform. This system, which has already been introduced in the EX30, EX90 and the recently updated XC90, is now available here. The driver and passengers interact with a bright 11.2-inch touchscreen, featuring a 21% increase in pixel density for sharper images. The system is powered by the Snapdragon Cockpit platform, which delivers more than twice the processing power and a tenfold increase in graphics performance compared to the previous generation. This translates into faster response times, smoother animations and an overall more satisfying user experience, Volvo claims.
In addition to the technological advances, the XC60's interior receives a first-class upgrade. Refreshed decors and inlays, combined with the introduction of high-quality materials such as “Quilted Nordico“ and “Navy Herringbone Weave“, enhance the luxury of the cabin. Practicality is also addressed with redesigned cupholders and a more efficient wireless smartphone charging pad. Volvo’s commitment to passenger comfort is further enhanced by improved noise insulation, achieved in part through laminated glass, which creates a calm and refined driving environment. For those seeking the highest quality of ride, adaptive air suspension remains an option, as does the highly regarded Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system, which now features a new speaker design. Power remains entrusted to the familiar B5 AWD engine with 250 horsepower.
