BYD has faced a wave of complaints after adding free smart driving features to most of its new models. According to Reuters, the Chinese platform 12365auto.com, where users rate the quality of cars, has seen a record spike in dissatisfaction.
From February 11 to 17, the platform received more than 4,700 complaints, compared with just 150 a week earlier and about 500 for all of January. Consumers are mostly complaining about overpaying for their cars, while new versions with improved features are available without price changes.
The Ocean and Dynasty series models, which are the most popular in China, made it into the top 10 in the ranking of cars with the most complaints.
One of the owners of the Seal 06 DM-i hybrid sedan says that when buying the car, he asked the dealer several times whether an updated model was expected in the near future.
Amidst the negative answer, he bought the car, but just two weeks after the purchase, a new version with improved features appeared on the market at the same price. He wants a free upgrade or compensation.
