Mercedes-Benz is preparing for the launch of the new CLA, which is an important model for the future of the brand. While the initial plans were aimed at an all-electric approach, the CLA will now offer both internal combustion and electric powertrains, using the flexible MMA platform. The company is expected to present the model in the coming months, and one of the last stops for testing is the Bulgarian capital, where a prototype of the model was spotted yesterday.

In the footage shared by BK Automotive on Instagram, we can see almost complete camouflage for the compact model of the Germans, with the only exposed part remaining the roof. The new generation CLA will follow the design language of its older brothers – EQS and EQE, and will feature an aerodynamic shape and a similar light signature at the front and rear.

The interior will be equipped with the latest MB.OS infotainment system, powered by a virtual assistant controlled by artificial intelligence. This system aims to improve the driving experience through intuitive interaction and proactive support. It is probably the one that is being tested in our country, judging by the fact that part of the software is being developed in Bulgaria.

Mercedes promises a range of 1,270 kilometers with two 10-minute stops for charging. This remarkable achievement is thanks to a combination of factors, including a large 85kWh battery, 800-volt architecture and ultra-fast charging capabilities.

During a rigorous 24-hour endurance test at the Nardo technical center in Italy, the CLA demonstrated its exceptional range, covering a total of 3,716 kilometers with 40 charging stops, each lasting just 10 minutes. Although specific charging speeds were not disclosed, the car achieved a charging speed of 320 kW.

The CLA will be joined by a Shooting Brake variant, as well as replacements for the GLA and GLB, including their electric counterparts. However, Mercedes is streamlining its electric car lineup, dropping the “EQ” sub-brand. Future electric models will be identified by their class name, such as the “GLA with EQ Technology“, emphasizing the integration of electric drive technology within the existing model range.
