German car giant BMW will continue to invest in combustion engine technology, considering the transition to electric vehicles too complex and time-consuming.
BMW board member Jochen Goller said in an interview with the Financial Times that the company will continue to invest in combustion engine technology rather than focusing on electric cars.
“I think it would be naive to think that the transition to electrification is a one-way street. That's why we are investing in our combustion engines. We are investing in modern plug-in hybrids. But we will also continue to produce electric cars,“ he says.
Haller added that BMW understands very well that customers want to be able to choose the powertrain they like. The company's slogan "The Power of Choice" is exactly what it's all about - the brand wants to offer different types of engines for one car.
And this is evident, because most of the company's models can be equipped with gasoline, diesel, hybrid or fully electric engines. We recall that last year BMW sold 2,200,177 cars. Of these, only 368,523 were electric cars, while the remaining 1.83 million were with internal combustion engines.
