Toyota is officially preparing for the presentation of the new compact SUV Land Cruiser FJ, which will take place in the fall of 2025. However, sales of the model will start later.
The new model will be the smallest and most affordable SUV in the legendary Land Cruiser line, while retaining the frame design and true off-road qualities.
The car will go on sale in early 2026, with Toyota planning to offer it both in the domestic Japanese market and in international markets.
The dimensions of the Land Cruiser FJ clearly demonstrate its compactness: its length is 4,500 mm, and the wheelbase is 2,750 mm. All this makes the new model smaller than the Toyota RAV4 (4,600 mm long).
Unlike older models, which are based on the TNGA-F platform, the Land Cruiser FJ will be built on IMV-0 - a simpler architecture used for the Toyota Hilux Champ.
This will reduce production costs and offer the car at a more affordable price. The powertrains for the new model will vary depending on the market:
In Japan, the Land Cruiser FJ will receive a 2.7-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with a capacity of 160 horsepower. It will work in tandem with a six-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system.
Export versions will be equipped with hybrid drives. Toyota is expected to use a proven gasoline-electric powertrain with a 2.5-liter engine, similar to that installed in the RAV4 Hybrid.
This will provide a balance between power and economy. The design of the Land Cruiser FJ will be inspired by the retro style, reminiscent of the iconic FJ Cruiser, with angular shapes, a flat hood and round headlights.
This approach is designed to appeal to fans of classic SUVs and competitors such as the Ford Bronco Sport and Jeep Wrangler. Toyota positions the Land Cruiser FJ as an affordable SUV for young drivers who like life in the great outdoors.
Thanks to the combination of a robust design, hybrid technology and compact dimensions, the model will become a universal solution that will be suitable for both the city and off-road.
