Reliability is one of the main criteria when choosing a car. A car that rarely breaks down not only ensures the safety of the driver and passengers, but also helps to save on repairs and reduce maintenance costs. That is why Consumer Reports experts annually study the global market and compile a ranking of the most reliable cars.
In 2025, the leaders in the rating are mainly Japanese brands, which are traditionally considered the benchmark for reliability. Experts evaluate cars based on several important parameters: crash test results, frequency of service visits, ease of use and owner satisfaction.
This year's ranking demonstrates the diversity of segments – from compact sedans to hybrid crossovers and even electric vehicles. For example, the Nissan Sentra and Toyota Camry traditionally receive high marks for ease of maintenance and engine reliability. The Subaru Crosstrek and Forester impress with their cross-country ability and durability in difficult conditions. The Toyota RAV4 PHEV and Highlander Hybrid combine economy with the durability of hybrid systems.
Interestingly, the top ten also includes premium models - the Lexus NX 350h, the BMW X5 (including the X5 PHEV plug-in hybrid) and the Tesla Model Y, which has confirmed its durability among electric cars. And the Ford Maverick is a compact pickup truck that combines affordability with high reliability and versatility.
