ABT, the famous German tuning company, was the victim of a brazen robbery, in which thieves stole valuable parts worth around 300,000 euros from cars parked at the company's headquarters.
Seven cars were attacked under cover of darkness, with the thieves turning off the security lights and power supply to carry out their plan. They didn't just take a set of rims, they removed entire sets of wheels and brake calipers, including expensive carbon-ceramic discs. ABT believes that this was the work of professionals, given the precision and scale of the operation.
Photos of an Audi RS6, stripped of its wheels and brakes, lying on bricks have been circulating online. Although the exact models that were targeted remain undisclosed, it can be assumed that the thieves focused on the most profitable cars in ABT's fleet, given the high value of the forged wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes.
Local authorities are investigating the theft, but ABT has acknowledged shortcomings in its security measures and promised to review its security protocols. The incident highlights that wheel theft is a global problem. Owners of cars with valuable rims are advised to invest in locking wheel bolts and nuts.
