BMW iX3 Looks Almost Ready for Its Debut - 1

BMW's next-generation iX3 is close to its official debut, heralding the brand's long-awaited "Neue Klasse" electric car family. This second-generation iX3, built on a dedicated electric vehicle platform, will spearhead BMW's ambitious plan to launch at least six new models between 2025 and 2027, including the next 3 Series and X5.

Unlike its predecessor, which was a derivative of the X3 with an internal combustion engine, the new iX3 will feature a different design, platform and interior. While the heavily camouflaged prototypes are still undergoing final testing, the design closely aligns with the Vision Neue Klasse X concept, marking a departure from BMW's recent oversized kidney grilles. Instead, a smaller, more refined grille reminiscent of classic BMW models will be flanked by sleek panels integrating the headlights and driver assistance sensors.

The iX3's profile retains the familiar SUV silhouette, with a raked windshield to improve aerodynamics, flush door handles and aerodynamically optimized wheels. The rear design incorporates BMW's signature Hofmeister curve and includes a roof spoiler that wraps around the rear window.

On the inside, the iX3 will showcase BMW's "Panoramic iDrive" system, featuring a pillar-to-pillar "Panoramic Vision" display at the base of the windshield, replacing the traditional instrument cluster. A large, trapezoidal 17.9-inch central touchscreen, angled towards the driver, will run the new BMW X operating system. There will be a unique four-spoke steering wheel, but the traditional rotary control disc will be absent.

The iX3 will ride on BMW's new “Neue Klasse“ platform, optimized for electric drives and featuring an 800V architecture for ultra-fast charging. BMW claims that a range of 300 km can be added in just 10 minutes. The sixth generation of eDrive technology promises a 30% increase in range, 30% faster charging and 25% better efficiency compared to current systems. This could lead to a range exceeding 600 kilometers for the new iX3. Single-motor rear-wheel drive models are expected, with the platform supporting up to four motors for all-wheel drive configurations.
