Toyota to launch electric pickup truck in Europe - 1

Toyota has signaled its intention to further expand its electric vehicle portfolio with a teaser image revealing a new all-electric pickup truck. The model, unveiled at a recent European event, appears to be different from the electric Hilux currently being developed for specific markets such as Thailand and Australia, adding another layer to Toyota’s electrification strategy.

The teaser image shows a double-cab design that sets it apart from the single-cab electric Hilux prototype. This suggests that Toyota is exploring a wider range of electric pickup truck options to meet different customer needs. Speculation is rife that this new model could be a production version of the Tacoma EV inspired by the concept shown in 2021, or perhaps a realization of the EPU concept from 2023. - a compact electric pickup truck aimed at markets such as South America.

The lack of specific details leaves much to the imagination. Technical specifications, including platform architecture and powertrain configurations, remain shrouded in mystery. It is likely that the new electric pickup will use Toyota's existing platforms and include the updated electric motors found in the updated bZ4X and C-HR+ models.

Toyota's President and CEO for Europe, Yoshihiro Nakata, stressed the company's commitment to aligning its electric vehicle strategy with customer lifestyle improvements and carbon neutrality goals.
