The Chinese car company BYD is building a car factory bigger than Paris. It is located in China, in the Henan province, where they plan to produce a million electric cars and hybrids per year. The total area of the megafactory will be 50 square miles (130 square kilometers), which is 20% more than Paris and comparable to a city like San Francisco. During the construction phase, the car city will employ 60 thousand people.
BYD can afford megaprojects, since last year the Chinese company's revenue amounted to $ 107 billion, and net profit reached $ 5.44 billion. The car factory-city is being built in eight stages, and after the completion of the work on the site it will employ more than 200 thousand people people.
Tesla's “Gigafactories“ pale in comparison to BYD's factory. The largest is in Nevada, USA, and covers only 4.9 square miles (12.7 square kilometers). Last year, about 25% of BYD's vehicles were exported, and for optimal logistics, the company created its own fleet of ships to transport cars, which has a record capacity.
According to preliminary data, the construction of the BYD plant in Henan is scheduled to be completed in 2026. The new automobile city will not only have assembly lines: there will be dormitories for workers and recreation areas right on the premises. It is not yet known how the work and rest regime will be implemented at the closed facility. However, the auto giant has already been involved in a scandal with “slavery“ conditions, and things may not be the same now.
