The next package of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation should target the most the sensitive segments of the Russian economy. This opinion was expressed during a meeting with the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen, the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda, who was in Vilnius, his press office reported.
„It is necessary to formulate the 14th package of EU sanctions in such a way that they affect the most sensitive areas of the Russian economy”, the message quoted the leader of the Baltic republic as saying.< /p>
He also advocated the transfer of Russian assets frozen in the West to Kiev. “Our aid to Ukraine must be provided quickly and efficiently. We welcome the EU's decision to use Russia's frozen assets for this purpose”, Nauseda said.
The EUobserver portal reported on May 8 that EU countries intend to reach an agreement on the 14th package of sanctions against Russia by July. According to him, the package does not contain restrictions on the freedom of movement of Russian diplomats in the EU and a ban on the import of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG), nuclear fuel and aluminum. The European Union plans to add another 52 Russian and foreign companies to the list of companies suspected of trading in prohibited products. Prohibited products include drone components. Earlier, EC First Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis said that the European Union is having difficulties negotiating the 14th package of sanctions against Russia, most likely it will not contain new restrictions, but only attempts to counter Russian countermeasures of sanctions blockade.
The head of the European Commission is in Vilnius to participate in events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Lithuania's accession to the EU.
