The Russian government may soon include bananas in the list of agricultural crops in the country. This will allow producers to apply for state support measures.
„The issue of classifying bananas as agricultural products is decided at the Russian government level. No one in Russia has grown or worked with such a crop on an industrial scale. In order to qualify for certain state support measures, bananas must be allowed as an agricultural crop in the Russian Federation. The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia is working in this direction, I think that in the near future there will be results“, said the Minister of Agriculture of the Stavropol Territory Sergey Izmalkov during a press conference at the TASS Caucasus Information Center.
Preparations for the implementation of the first such investment project are underway in the Stavropol Territory. In the city of Nevinnomyssk, it is planned to build 15 hectares of greenhouses with a total investment of about 1.4 billion rubles.
“There is a priority development zone there – a zone that provides certain preferences for investors. A plot of land is designated, and the investor, together with all interested executive bodies, is engaged in communication issues - connecting power grids, gas networks, etc. If all organizational and technical issues are resolved, then in the future by 2026 these products can really appear in the Stavropol Territory“, explained Izmalkov.
Earlier, the regional government told journalists that in addition to bananas, part of the capacity of the greenhouse complexes is planned to be used to grow avocados, mangoes and passion fruit. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
