The 200% import duties on European wines and other alcoholic beverages from the EU, which US President Donald Trump is threatening to impose, could become a trap for the global economy.
“The tariff hike is a terrible signal for industry, agriculture and winemaking. It is a trap for the global economy", French Prime Minister François Bayrou said on the air of the BFMTV television channel.
According to the Prime Minister, the US decision will harm not only Europe, but also the US itself. “A trade war is a huge danger”, Bayrou warned.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said on the social network Truth Social that Washington could impose a 200% tariff on alcoholic beverages, including wine, from EU countries if the community does not lift tariffs on US whiskey.
