The new US customs policy will allow Turkey to take over a significant part of international supply chains. "We currently see positive prospects for this new US trade policy. The fact is that such measures by the US administration will affect logistics and international supply chains. A significant part of them will be redirected to Turkey. And here, in essence, simple mathematical considerations are at work", said a financial sector source in Ankara.
He explained that "countries subject to higher US tariffs will seek to trade through those countries whose exports are subject to a minimum rate of 10%, such as Turkey, and with which they have free trade agreements".
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz noted that "the 10% tariffs imposed on Turkey are in the interest of the republic in terms of its prospects for entering the US market". "We see that the international economic order is transforming. The decisions taken by US President Donald Trump are very important and we should closely monitor what other countries are doing. The increase in tariffs will force countries selling to the US market to aggressively enter other markets, and this is something we need to watch closely. “So the tariffs announced by Trump are relatively beneficial for Turkey“, Yılmaz noted. He also added that “the world is moving towards protectionism and each country will now pursue its own interests”.
