"In “We continue the change" everyone has the right to a free voice and choice and this has been proven time and time again. But taking a position that changes the direction of the country, and is against the group's decision, led to today's decision," party co-chair Kiril Petkov wrote on his personal Facebook profile.
"We had many and long discussions in the parliamentary group. A few days ago, we informed Yavor Bozhankov and Daniel Laurer that if their votes are decisive for the election of the president and they block it, then we will have no choice but to demand their resignations, because this determines where Bulgaria is moving and is contrary to the party's beliefs. ;, he added.
"Before their votes became decisive for whether Parliament would function, I personally defended them as members of the group from the rostrum. This is how it would have continued if the fate of the entire parliament, the battle against Borislav Sarafov and the budget vote did not depend on these two votes," Petkov added.
"Until this moment, in the name of common goals and basic human solidarity, we have managed to achieve unified action,", the co-chairman of the PP also wrote.
"Both of them can make independent decisions with this prior knowledge, as well as the party can decide according to our common beliefs what is best for Bulgaria. The decisions of both of them were based on this knowledge," Petkov added.
"I respect and understand their position, but the party has a responsibility to hundreds of thousands of voters to choose a path for Bulgaria that is different from what happened today. From our point of view, this election is particularly important because of Delyan Peevski's power and Sarafov's chances of being elected," said the former prime minister.
"Tomorrow we are going to introduce changes in the Law on the Judiciary, which will stop Sarafov's election, as well as in the law on the Audit Chamber, in order to transparently fill out the House book. That is why it is important for the parliament to work", he also pointed out.
"We have a duty greater than personal bias, which we will uphold even in difficult decisions. Our cause is more important than any of us," added Petkov.
"It was an honor to work with both of them, but the decision of the Executive Board is final,", with these words, Petkov ended his post.
