Over the past months, a team of scientists from the University of Library Science and Information Technology is working diligently to study the impact of demographic processes in border areas on national security.
On November 28, in the municipal cultural center “Atatürk“, in the city of Edirne, the higher school held a final meeting with representatives of the regional and municipal administration, in which the deputy mayor of the city took part. Edirne Mr. Ertutrul Tanrakulu, the Consul General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Edirne Mrs. Radoslava Kafedzhiyska, the regional governor of Yambol region Mr. Nikolay Kostadinov and his deputy Mr. Orhan Yuseinov, the mayors of the border municipalities: Malko Tarnovo Mr. Iliyan Yanchev, in Bolyarovo Mr. Hristo Hristov, in Elhovo Mr. Petar Gendov, in Topolovgrad Mr. Bozhin Bozhinov and his deputies Mr. Hari Mochev and Mrs. Krasimira Atanasova, on Svilengrad arch. Anastas Karchev, of Kyustendil Eng. Ognyan Atanasov and the deputy mayor of the city Mr. Nikolay Dochev, of Bobovdol Adv. Elsa Velichkova.
The forum was officially opened by Prof. PhD Irena Peteva, Rector of UniBIT, and its moderator was Prof. Ph.D.Sc. Stoyan Denchev, Secretary General and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Higher School.
In the final part, the project team presented the results of the research in data and pointed out specifics about some of the most discussed issues related to demography, demographic processes and national security.
Representatives of the local government also spoke about the current issues of illegal migration, low birth rate and the depopulation of settlements in the border areas.
For his contribution to the solution of a number of the problems raised and discussed in the border municipalities, the mayor of Topolovgrad, Mr. Bozhin Bozhinov, presented Professor Stoyan Denchev with the Badge of Honor of the city and expressed the gratitude of the Topolovgrad public for his patriotism activity.
