„Forgiveness, according to Pope Francis, is a fundamental virtue of a true Christian leader“, said in the studio of „Ofansiva” Prof. Momchil Metodiev, who is the man who translated two of the Pope's encyclicals and instructions.
Metodiev emphasized that forgiveness does not mean forgetting — on the contrary, memory is of utmost importance.
„Pope Francis says that the world we want to leave to our children must include all people“, pointed out Prof. Metodiev.
The first encyclical he is translating is dedicated to the fight against climate change. According to him, Pope Francis' recipe for dealing with the climate crisis is international cooperation.
„In his last Easter sermon, Francis stated that there can be no democracy without the existence of basic freedoms. This is the starting point on which he builds his vision“, explained Metodiev.
According to him, Francis is the first pope to pay attention to social networks and new technologies — he does not deny them, but analyzes their impact.
Metodiev pointed out that the world is currently facing two paths — polarization and dialogue. According to him, formal unity is difficult to achieve, but dialogue is the key to progress.
Religion in school
„Our education system is highly secularized. But when I see that students do not have basic knowledge of the Christian faith, I believe that it is necessary to teach general culture related to it in school“, said Prof. Metodiev.
He did not commit to a specific form for this training, but expressed hope that this conversation will lead to real change in the educational system.
