Are there possible ways out of the “dead end” in the election of the chairman of the National Assembly? Is it possible that the decision is in the nomination of Atanas Atanasov? Social anthropologist Haralan Aleksandrov commented on these questions in the program “Offensive with Ljubo Ognyanov”.
„There is a lot of violence in politics. We are coming out of 5 years of political conflict, in which the norm is to criticize, insult, humiliate, screw up and in every way harass your opponent. We are currently in a situation where these people should at least learn to be together for the sake of some important social tasks. The time allotted by the Constitution for this process is not enough. All passion is directed into the conflict. We have to decide if there will be a “frozen” conflict, or there will be a truce. If it comes to “frozen” conflict, it would be a success. And after new elections, as they are looming, to make another, hopefully more successful, attempt at a form of meaningful government”, Aleksandrov said.
He also commented on the proposal made 1 week ago for Boyko Borisov to be prime minister, and Atanasov – chairman of the National Assembly. From “Yes, Bulgaria” however, they are against Borissov being prime minister.
„It is certainly possible to negotiate everything, the question is from what positions. “Yes, Bulgaria” and PP like to be in a position of power, to dictate terms and give the rules. It seems to me that this is another attempt to impose their version and demonstrate strength, which will be important to their electorate in the next election. Whether this will work depends on the goodwill of Borisov”, Aleksandrov said.
According to him, however, there is no “great space for retreat” at GERB, as the party is very mobilized and is not ready to be in a subordinate position. Alexandrov expects GERB to continue winning elections.
„The question is whether it can be passed into the mode of reasonable conversation. I think we've moved a little towards some idea of an understanding. But whether it will develop is a big question”, Aleksandrov commented.
