Both the revenue and expenditure sides of the proposed budget were discussed. More specific topics for discussion were identified. There is no talk of a final handshake. This was commented by economist and lecturer Georgi Ganev on "Denyat ON AIR" regarding the parameters of Budget 2025.
According to him, Lyudmila Petkova is the first minister to propose hyperinflationary increases in spending.
"It is very easy for everyone to justify themselves with Assen Vassilev. Any budget that has a deficit of over 0% contradicts me again, I will not see one. Everything worries me, except for the only two items that do not foresee gigantic increases in the expenditure side, namely current support and social security payments," Ganev commented.
The security product that the Ministry of Interior is obliged to provide to Bulgarian citizens is under all criticism and they do not deserve the huge payments, the economist emphasized.
"Especially some of them. We have suspicions that it is not about the police officers who are on the street, but about a category that does nothing for the good of Bulgarians, but receives huge salaries. Politicians increasing the salaries of officials with taxpayers' money so that they vote - this is vote buying. The Ministry of Interior administration must be drastically reduced and with the freed staff, the salaries of the police officers who are on the streets and protect us should be increased," Ganev urged Bulgaria ON AIR.
The guest outlined the scenario for the Eurozone.
"In mid-January, when the December data are released, it is very likely that we will be within the limits, even of the strictest definition of the criterion. In February, the data on an accrual basis, even for 2024, will not yet have been released. And what these reports do is that they work with reported data that has already occurred. January 2026 continues to look like a realistic possibility,", the economist predicted.
