Municipal councilor in the Sofia Municipal Council, economist and former trade unionist Vanya Grigorova spoke on the financial topic No. 1 in the state - the 2025 budget plan. “The lack of a budget is an extremely big problem, because we cannot lay the basis for implementing policies next year. One of our main topics was public transport, not only in Sofia. During one of our last discussions at the end of last month, I contacted the companies in Varna, Burgas, Ruse, Kostinbrod and Pernik, and it became clear that there is underfunding there too. Everything is coded in the state budget“, she told NOVA.
According to her, part of the problem concerning the huge traffic in the capital is the lack of good rail transport. “We have been destroying the Bulgarian State Railways for years, we see that layoffs and privatization are being prepared there. When I was still in the “Podkrepa“ coalition, we fought for 10 million leva more subsidies, which again would not have covered the basic costs, but at least there would have been a little more comfort. But the funds could not be found“, Grigorova pointed out.
“The Bulgarian tax and social security system is so distorted and has so many defects in it. It is pleasing to people with a lot of money. There are things that need to be fixed before the value added tax on bread is touched“, she specified.
