Prof. Sergey Ignatov: The situation is deadlocked. We must support the possibility of GERB forming a cabinet - 1

There is exactly one week left until the end of this year – time for stocktaking. What are the major goals that will unite the political forces in the country and is there a general goal that will get Bulgaria out of the political crisis and the spiral of elections?

„The situation is currently deadlocked. Negotiations must be made, but with this fragmentation, the interests of the individual fragments prevail over the national interests, if they exist at all in the minds of most of the leaders of these political formations. That is why I think that now we must support the possibility of GERB forming a government“, said Prof. Sergey Ignatov, former Minister of Education and lecturer at NBU in the program „This Morning“ on bTV.

“GERB and BSP may be from different political families, but they are also from one main family and it is called Bulgaria. And I think that because of their history and the political responsibilities they have taken on over the years of their development – they can in the name of the Bulgarian interest, since it is more important than any party interest“, he also said.
According to him, these party interests are only for the public, and otherwise the leaders of the parties drink coffee together and go hunting.

Statistics show that from May 2021 to today - 775 days of caretaker cabinets have governed the country compared to only 540 days of regular governments. As many as 77% of Bulgarians expect new early elections in the upcoming 2025.

This is shown by a study by “Market Links“, which was presented yesterday in “This Morning“.

“I think this is the path to the future coalition culture in Bulgaria. What has been happening in these years is extremely interesting, because in our parliamentary republic, until this constitutional change, which we call the home book, we actually had a unique historical situation in which, in a parliamentary republic, the president ruled for a long time“, said Prof. Ignatov.

And he commented on the need to have a working government in order to be equal participants in what is happening in the European Union.

“It is important to show wisdom in the decisions that are made. "I don't like the hawks in foreign policy who, literally to secure a warm place and a warm future for the next 2/3 years, risk the future of the country," he said.
