Until December 31 is the deadline in which employees can request from their employers the so-called transfer to 2025 of unused paid annual leave from 2024. For this purpose, they submit an application for its postponement.

The use of paid annual leave is postponed at the request of the employee with the consent of the employer. The transfer of leave to the next calendar year can also be for its entire amount, when it is not used, explained to the Bulgarian National Radio, the National Secretary for Legal Protection at the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions Velichka Mikova.

Paid annual leave has a two-year statute of limitations and if it is not used by the end of two years from the end of the year for which it is due, regardless of the reasons, the right to use it is extinguished.

Paid annual leave must be used, it cannot be compensated with monetary compensation, except upon termination of the employment relationship. Upon termination of the employment relationship, the employee is entitled to monetary compensation for the unused paid annual leave, the right to which has not been extinguished by statute of limitations.
