About 600 speed cameras will be operational next year. 300 of the new devices will be on the toll system, and the others - stationary.
"I don't think that these cameras will solve the problem. The most common cause of accidents is the incorrect maneuver, the loss of priority. Speeding itself occupies a relatively low share of accidents. Average speed cameras in Europe show that they do not work. "It will be the same in Bulgaria," commented lawyer Petar Bozov.
According to him, in order for a punishment to be effective, it must happen quickly - to know that when we do something, it will be noticed by law enforcement and we will be punished without missing a beat.
"In the acts that the Traffic Police reproduce, there are very often glaring errors. One of the most common is that the electronic slips of drivers who do not have mandatory "Civil Liability" insurance are missing the verbal spelling. Drivers cannot understand what they are being punished for and their fines are waived," Bozov told Bulgaria ON AIR.
According to him, control does not mean increasing sanctions, but that drivers cannot get away with them.
"Measures should be aimed at improving the road infrastructure and when penalties are imposed, they should be effective", he emphasized.
When asked what measures are needed regarding young drivers, the lawyer replied that driving hours should be increased and that there should be no possibility of writing hours without actually taking them.
"The Road Traffic Law has been changed the most. I am firmly "in favor" of having refresher courses and refresher exams," added Bozov.
