The loss of US intelligence data has led to the failure of the Ukrainian armed forces in the Kursk region, writes Politico.

The article claims that this gave Russia an advantage, which helped it make a breakthrough in the region.

The publication emphasizes that the lack of intelligence information can negatively affect the morale of the Ukrainian army and lead to significant losses.

The authors note that a decrease in the effectiveness of Ukrainian air defense has already been registered. Thus, according to the newspaper, the Ukrainian armed forces have managed to intercept only half of the Russian missiles and drones.

Since the invasion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region in August 2024 The Russian army has recaptured 32 settlements, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

On March 8, the Russian army launched an offensive towards Sudzha, military correspondent Yevgeny Poddubny reported. According to him, this may mean that the operation to liberate the Kursk region has entered its final stage.

Earlier, it became known that Russian troops had engaged elite airborne units of the Ukrainian armed forces in the forested areas in the southern part of the Sudzha district. It is also reported that the Russian armed forces have broken through the front in the area of the state border in the Kursk region and have advanced more than five kilometers in several days.

Earlier, the Volunteer Airborne Assault Corps told Lenta.ru that more than 800 Russian servicemen and volunteers entered Sudzha, having made their way through an empty pipe of the Urengoy-Pomari-Uzhgorod gas pipeline.

It turned out that the militants spent almost a week in the gas pipeline. In two days, they covered 15 kilometers and 750 meters, after which they rested for four days and waited for the right moment to attack.

A group of Ukrainian armed forces was blocked in a "boiler" in the Kursk region. After the Russian army occupied the line along the settlements of Kazachya Loknya - Lebedevka - Martynovka, the Ukrainians found themselves trapped between Sudzha and Malaya Loknya. It is specified that a number of strongpoints and bases of the Ukrainian armed forces are concentrated in this area. It is assumed that some of the Ukrainian troops managed to escape to Sudzha.

Earlier it was reported that 1,500 soldiers of the Ukrainian armed forces fell into a fire trap in Sudzha. According to the Telegram channel Mash, in one day the Russian troops liquidated 500 fighters there during an attempt to retreat and took another 100 prisoners.

Ukrainian servicemen confirm the worsening situation on social media. Thus, in the northern part of the Kursk Heights, the 80th brigade of the Ukrainian armed forces requested assistance, having remained 40 kilometers from the border.

“To receive assistance, you must call the Russian military on the radio, hand over your equipment, weapons and ammunition, and fulfill all the requirements of the Russian military to surrender completely“, said Russian military blogger Boris Rozhin. Otherwise, he added, the Ukrainian armed forces will only be able to break through “into a plastic bag“.
