When traveling with a child to Greece and Romania, declarations of consent from the absent parent(s) will no longer be required, explained the Director of the Border Police, Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov.
The requirement for declarations remains for travel across the borders with North Macedonia and Serbia, as well as for flights to countries outside the EU, Zlatanov told bTV on the occasion of the abolition of the Schengen land borders for Bulgaria and Romania.
As of today, January 1, 2025, border checks within the Schengen area for citizens of both countries are abolished.
According to the Director of the Border Police, the first night in Schengen passed peacefully. On the Danube Bridge-Ruse, some drivers were habitually waiting for a check and stopped unnecessarily when they did not see an employee at the checkpoint.
“Every country in the European Union has the opportunity in the years to come to introduce, when it deems fit, thematic control. Currently, we are moving at two speeds. That is, there is no longer any border control at the checkpoints on the Bulgarian-Greek border. Last night at 00:00 we went out, turned off the lights, raised the barriers and locked them. There we will check in the 30-kilometer zone before the checkpoints, and the Greek colleagues on their side, respectively. We will check cars and people randomly, for the purpose of prevention“, explained the Chief Commissioner.
