We deal with consumer rights. After all, there should always be a bracket next to VAT and it should say - this is a tax on consumption, paid by the latter. When business talks about VAT, it talks about accounting procedures, because they only charge. In the end, we consumers pay the entire VAT. Business does not pay a penny, it only transfers along the chain. So – the money is not in us, for sure. This was stated in the program “This Saturday“ on bTV Bogomil Nikolov from the association “Active Consumers“.
“In Bulgaria, it has become fashionable for business to work for subsidies. Every industry is trying to find some arguments to receive help from the state – whether it will be a subsidy, tax incentive, a ceiling on electricity prices, or something else. But all industries are developing their own strategies on how to lobby. And they all use consumers as an excuse, but no one listens to consumers and no one asks them“, added Bogomil Nikolov.
“We did a simple calculation – if a person consumes a third of bread a day, this means that he eats 10 loaves of bread a month, an increase of about 30 stotinki, makes three leva. At the same time, if you take out a quick loan of 1,000 leva, you will pay another 1,000 leva to pay it back. Although the law has set a ceiling on the price of the loan, which is not respected. If we talk about consumers, we must look where the money goes, where they take the most money from us. Let's look at where they rob us the most. It's certainly not with bread“, he said.
