"Borisov's latest post seems dangerous. I sincerely hope that he has not decided to retroactively manipulate the figures of the 2024 budget, trying to shift responsibility for a possible failure to join the eurozone. Such an action would be disastrous for Bulgaria".
This was written on social networks by the co-chair of “Continuing the Change“ Kiril Petkov.
Previously, the GERB leader categorically insisted in his Facebook post that the appointments of deputy ministers and regional governors should begin after the adoption of the budget.
Borisov also stated that he would not allow false data to be reported about the state's financial situation and therefore wants the Finance Ministry to explain at the beginning of next week what expenses due for last year have been transferred to 2025 in order to meet the set deficit on a cash basis. According to the GERB leader, Eurostat reported a deficit of 3.7% in the first 9 months of last year and asks how it became 3% at the end of December.
Kiril Petkov's response follows, who continued as follows:
"We know his tactics well - it is easier for him to justify not achieving the goal with the eurozone by manipulating the figures for 2024, while in the meantime:
- Increased the budget deficit for 2025
- Distributed generous funds to coalition partners to keep them quiet
- Provided funding for Peevski
- Directed funds to mayors from his party.
In such a scenario, he will try to avoid responsibility for the failure to enter the eurozone, even though the fault would be entirely his. "I hope this is just another PR move of his, and not a betrayal of our European future!", adds Petkov.
