This was stated during a hearing in parliament by the Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov, quoted by Nova TV.
We recall that the MPs heard the Minister of Interior regarding the allegations of police officer Dimitar Nikolov about putting pressure on him and an order to arrest a specific person in whose car they “found“ illegal weapons and narcotics, as well as for the possible existence and operation of an organized criminal group of senior police officers in the city.
„The appointed inspection also includes officers of „Internal Security“ and the General Directorate „National Police“, said Mitov and announced that a second inspection is being conducted in the regional directorate in connection with a signal of unlawful actions by officers during an operation on May 16, 2024 in the port „Europe“ - Burgas.
When asked if he knew that a disciplinary investigation was immediately initiated against police officer Dimitar Nikolov, the minister stated that in such cases inspections are necessary because certain rules in the Ministry of Interior have been violated.
„I call on the members of parliament not to demonize or glorify any of the parties involved in the specific conflict“, said Daniel Mitov. He stressed that after the end of the inspections and clarification of all facts, all necessary disciplinary measures will be taken.
„We will check everything, including interrelations between the leadership of the Burgas Regional Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and local factors - business or others. If such are established, we will act as the law dictates. If we catch police officers and Ministry of Internal Affairs employees working with the criminal contingent, we will be uncompromising“, said the Minister.
In connection with a comment on organized crime in the country and the work of law enforcement agencies, the Minister indicated that political instability has also been reflected in the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. "Clear and categorical actions are needed to make the Ministry of Interior and other institutions work as they should," Mitov said.
He also stated that the planned increase in salaries in the Ministry of Interior brings with it responsibilities and increased requirements.
The deputies terminated the powers of the MP from the "BSP-United Left" Stefan Burdzhev with 144 votes "for", 49 "against" and 1 "abstention". This item was included in the agenda after consultations with the Council of Presidents.
Stefan Burdzhev himself resigned as a MP in the 51st National Assembly. On Thursday, he was appointed by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food.
