If we do not investigate now how the media in our country were sponsored by George Soros' foundations, tomorrow some rich family, for example from Pakistan, i.e. outside the European Union, may appear, which will influence public opinion through their money.
This was said in the program “This Morning” on BNT by independent MEP Elena Yoncheva, quoted by Epicenter.
According to her, it should never happen that forces outside the European Union have the opportunity to sponsor media and this is the basis of the proposal of the leader of the MRF – NEW BEGINNING Delyan Peevski to investigate the mechanisms by which George Soros's foundations have financed NGOs and media.
Yoncheva also commented on J.D. Vance's speech at the Munich Conference:
"It was historic. And as the American president said, part of the European elite has been watching this speech and everything that is happening, especially with what is happening in Ukraine, like a herd of deer that unexpectedly find themselves in the headlights of a car. This is a big surprise for the European elite.
But as Orban says, Europe deserves what it heard. There have been years of attempts to establish censorship in the media, to combat disinformation, which is practically the new Ministry of Truth – the other way to impose censorship“, she pointed out.
„The Media Freedom Act protects journalists and consumers from attempts to censor the media and journalists. There will be much greater editorial freedom, protection for journalists from political influence“, explained Yoncheva.
She explained that she worked on this act in the European Parliament and it also concerns banning or regulating and monitoring media that receive funding and whose activities are based on funding that comes from outside the EU.
“This has been happening for a long time in Bulgaria with various media that were funded by Soros“, said the MEP. According to her, it is very important to understand the mechanism by which these funds entered the media and how they functioned.
“The principle “who pays, orders the music“ cannot be applied to the media and to various public processes“, emphasized Yoncheva.
“This is funding that comes from private individuals. Today, this is Soros. "If we don't understand exactly what happened and how it happened, in time such funding could come from billionaires in Pakistan, India, China, Russia," she said, adding that this is in the interest of the entire society.
She expressed confidence that the parties in the Bulgarian parliament should support such an investigation in order to shed light on these mechanisms. They could also pose a threat to public security.
Asked if she thought that the Soros-linked media distort public freedom, she replied: "Of course they do. It's not just about the Soros-linked media, it's about the principle." When big finances, millions of leva enter the media and their functioning is based on this money, then we cannot expect that the editorial policy will be independent“.
“A journalistic elite is being created that influences all processes in society, including elections“, warned Yoncheva, who is a former journalist.
“What President Trump is trying to do and I hope will be successful, is create a new security system. What is coming is indeed perhaps a multipolar world, where the interests of all powers will be taken into account. This means that I will not be able to put my nuclear weapon next to your fence“, she commented.
“The conversation is and will be between Trump and Putin and this was confirmed yesterday by President Trump's special envoy Mr. Kellock, who said that at the negotiating table, unfortunately – my comment, Europe will not participate. But as Orban says, Europe deserves it. For several years, Europe has not participated in this conversation about how to achieve peace in Ukraine“, she believes.
According to her, Ukraine will not be excluded from the talks, but the main negotiations to end the war will be between the US and Russia. It is not good for Europe to be thrown out of the negotiating table, because no one has an interest in deepening this cold war that has begun.
“What Mr. Kellock said – Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, he said: “No, we should not fight to the last Ukrainian, we will not allow this and we will reach a peace agreement“. I hope this will happen and I assume that within a week or two there will already be at least some kind of peace agreement published on which this peace will be built. The topic will not only be Ukraine. "A new system of global security is being created, where Ukraine will be part of only this problem," Yoncheva predicts.
Regarding the Bulgarian sailors who were held captive by the Houthis, she stated: "Most Bulgarian institutions did everything within their powers to have them released. This must be acknowledged. Many experts participated and made efforts to release the two Bulgarian sailors. I hope that when there is such a case in the future - Bulgarians who are in trouble, the Bulgarian institutions will organize themselves better and help them return sooner. Instead of waiting more than a year".
"I was in Sana'a, in Yemen, in Al-Hudaydah for about a week. I held more than 50 hours of talks with the leaders of the "Ansar Allah" movement, which controls part of the country. They are not internationally recognized. The penultimate day they said: "Yes, you will be able to return with the two Bulgarians". I was there on a humanitarian mission, but I found out on the spot that we could go further and return with our sailors," she revealed.
Then Yoncheva announced in Sofia that she could leave with the captured sailors. On the last day, however, the dialogue with the group suddenly changed and they said that the Bulgarians would be released, but at a later stage.
"When I returned to Bulgaria, I found out that an official from the Foreign Ministry had sent a message to one of the leaders of the Houthis that my visit to Yemen was not humanitarian, but private, and that I was a representative of a political party. Firstly, it is not true, because my visit there was purely humanitarian. I am a representative of the EP, and in the EP, MPs have a responsibility to all Bulgarian citizens, not only from the party from which they were sent. Secondly, I have the support of the Bulgarian caretaker prime minister for the humanitarian mission. And when you send a message to a Houthi leader that you are there on a private visit, of course that does not create a favorable environment for the sailors to return quickly," the MEP said.
She admitted that the action of the Foreign Ministry official shocked her. "I did this because I thought that all institutions should support each other in a national cause. This is not a party cause. It is purely national," Yoncheva said.
She also revealed that she had actually set out on a purely humanitarian mission to see what condition the sailors were in and had not expected that it would be possible for them to be released.
"When I found out on the spot, as a result of these conversations with the Houthi representatives, that I could return with them, the fact that I am sharing with you and that I have established was truly shocking. "That is probably the case and the Bulgarian services can confirm it," the MEP pointed out.
