A day after we celebrated March 3, discussions resumed again about whether this date should mark our national holiday, or should it be replaced by another. We recall that in the parliamentary hall years ago there were proposals to make this date May 24 - however, they were never adopted.
„I have been saying this since 2007, Bulgarians should finally sit down and come to an agreement about the so-called national calendar. Apparently this holiday does not unite the nation - no matter who or what they say“, said Prof. Milko Palangurski from the Institute for Historical Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in the program „Face to Face“ on bTV.
„For nearly 15 years, I have been almost every March 3rd at Shipka, until 2007 it was a national holiday, Bulgarian flags were flying there, after Putin's infamous speech in 2007, Russian flags appeared in Munich, since 2014 they have already dominated, this year there are fewer, but there are other reasons for this. So when a holiday leads to other flags being flown, I often say to see the Serbian brothers – they are the most loyal allies of Russia, but have you ever seen a Russian flag on a Serbian holiday? You won't see it“, he was categorical.
And he explained that the main problem is the division that is occurring among the nation, giving as an example last night's speech by the president in the capital on the occasion of March 3.
We recall that in his speech he stated that “147 years ago on this date Bulgaria was resurrected on the map of Europe“.
“This is simply not true, on March 3 Bulgaria was not resurrected – it was resurrected, as the Russian Foreign Minister says, on April 17, 1979, when the first Bulgarian prince was elected. Then Bulgaria also went on the map of Europe for the first time“, the professor explained.
