The leader of Spasi Sofia warned that the inherited crises in the capital are increasing, which implies bold management measures. “Citizens expect from Mayor Terziev and the governing coalition determination and modernization of the city. Unfortunately, there is a lack of courage, but also a majority in the municipal council. However, after 20 years of stagnation, Sofia cannot afford indecision and lack of vision.“ – Bonev is categorical.
According to him, there are a number of ready-made reforms, which are stalled due to a lack of managerial will. Boris Bonev pointed to an increase in the building permit fee in order to reduce overdevelopment, a ban on the sale of municipal housing, projects to introduce new BUS lanes to speed up public transport, and the parking reform. “These are long-delayed measures that will be positively felt by citizens. They are ready and we are making every effort to get the mayor and his team to move them forward. Sofia residents voted for us to make real change and the lack of it is a serious deviation from the coalition agreement. We did not appear in the elections with the slogan that we will continue the government of GERB, but exactly the opposite.“ – said the leader of Spasi Sofia.
Bonev also commented on the obstacles that are placed before the only deputy mayor of Spasi Sofia. According to him, the denunciations are written by an appointed and trained cadre of GERB and this is a political attack. “We can explain why Dimitar Petrov is important to them, but I have no answer why he is so irreplaceable and important to the mayor, despite the constant sabotage. The case with Iliyan Pavlov is hollow and will not last an hour in court. This is done only because of the photo and the headline – and we have signals that they are ready to do anything for this photo and headline. That is why it was important for Terziev to clearly take a side, and not to allow a derby on Moskovska 33.“ – said Bonev.
Spasi Sofia's assessment of the appointed temporary chief architect and his actions is negative. “We have lost enormous trust because a number of construction projects were allowed, against which we and our colleagues from the DB have been fighting for years. Appointments to the NAG are being made quietly and it is not clear who really runs the institution, and the concept for reform of the sector outlined before the elections is not being followed. It is extremely important that the competition for a new chief architect be completely transparent.“ – stated Boris Bonev.
The leader of Spasi Sofia emphasized that there is no reaction to the major problems that the party publicly raised 4 months ago. The coalition is burdened with huge political expectations and has a mandate for bold actions, but this is not happening. An honest and clear answer is needed as to whether there is still the will to make these promises happen. Spasi Sofia does not participate in the government for positions, but for specific projects, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to remain in such a configuration.“ – the leader of Spasi Sofia is categorical.
