The old leadership became newly legitimate, but if we look a little deeper we will see that this is good news, because in the BSP there was a dual power - two main circles sought to seize power, which created problems and contradictions in the party itself. The organization of the Congress was under all kinds of criticism. This was said by former MEP Petar Vitanov in the studio of "Denyat ON AIR".
He himself does not expect anything to change.
"The Congress lacked policies, the focus was on the election of the chairman and there was no talk of policies. There were quite a few shortcomings that need to be explained to the people, as the opinion of the party's supporters about the BSP's participation in power is not unambiguous. The congress did not come up with a document that would clearly regulate the need for participation in such a government, the policies in it that the BSP will defend and will not deviate from, and the "red lines" that it will outline. This gives some additional legitimacy," Vitanov added on Bulgaria ON AIR.
He does not believe that there was "shopping" for delegates.
"This was a competition with an unclear end, for me it is not important who will win, what is important is the result with which the BSP will emerge from this government. The BSP has already consumed the negative from coming to power, the goal is to see how it will proceed further, because if there are no clear and visible results that people can feel and touch, someone will eventually pay the bill. And the sooner this government ends, the greater it will be. These people who govern today will be held accountable," commented the former MEP.
In his words, the BSP has key portfolios.
"Today it is snowing, yesterday it was raining, that is good, because the problem with water shortage is huge. There are over 100 municipalities that are experiencing a water shortage. The prerequisites are not for solving this problem, on the contrary, for worsening the situation. The BSP has the chance to solve this problem with a number of measures," the guest emphasized.
Vitanov revealed that he does not want to return to the BSP leadership because he does not share some of the party's views.
"I would like the people who manage the party to bring it to a state where socialists can vote for it. Iconic figures are returning to the National Council, which is good because a person like Sergey Stanishev adds value to this National Council. There is always internal opposition," he added.
Petar Vitanov is of the opinion that the BSP should not focus on social policy.
"There is an administration that is extremely burdensome, very often serving to provide employment for party cadres. Everyone would accept some kind of abbreviation, because we all realize what a waste this state administration is. On the other hand, salaries in many places create problems, including the lack of personnel in the private sector. There should be an analysis of each administration," he said categorically, admitting that he always believed that there was foreign influence in the party.
