We should send a contingent of peacekeeping forces to Ukraine. This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by Elena Poptodorova from the Atlantic Club in Bulgaria, former ambassador to the US.
She believes that this could happen after an agreement is reached to end the war between Moscow and Kiev.
"This is an old practice. There are peacekeeping troops in almost the whole world. Bulgaria has long been sending its contingents to these peacekeeping units. They could be under the auspices of the UN. The form can be found," our diplomat said.
Of course, it is not about soldiers on the front, she explained.
"It is about what we are doing in Kosovo, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Cambodia", Poptodorova listed.
"This will be a sign of Bulgaria's attitude towards the war and Russia. Either a country has a policy and a vision that it defends, or it remains somewhere on the sidelines. It will take a long time until conditions and signatures for peace are put on the table. After that, peacekeeping will be discussed," she added.
