Kaloyan Metodiev: Borisov and Peevski are laying out a new political system

The government is introducing a budget that has three characteristics: it is anti-social, anti-private sector and anti-civil liberties

The great danger facing Bulgaria at the moment is what the two are trying to structure as a party system and the attempt through the 2025 budget to make the state a bludgeon in order to strangle any kind of alternative. This was said in the program “Studio Aktualno“ by political scientist Kaloyan Metodiev, a deputy in the 50th National Assembly

„Last week this was omitted, I did not hear it anywhere from analysts, political scientists: Borisov introduced rhetoric that he is already a right-wing, conservative party with Christian values, and Peevski is a representative of the left in Bulgaria. Currently, a party system is being built for the coming years, in which they have obviously calculated that Borisov will label himself as something conservative and right-wing, and Peevski and his MRF will label themselves as left-wing. Peevski's rhetoric is already left-wing - given that MRF has always been a liberal party for 35 years and has been pushing such policies, especially in terms of the economy," Kaloyan Metodiev pointed out. He added: "At some point you see that they are distributing roles. To this are added the nationalists - always a convenient crutch, created by someone. And the other key holders that hang on Borisov and Peevski's belts, like the UDF, like the ITN, like the BSP already - like this party already defines corruption and the ban on protests in its documents“.

The political scientist warned: “The great danger facing Bulgaria at the moment is what they are trying to structure as a party system and that through this budget they are trying to make the state a truncheon in order to strangle any kind of alternative“.

In the conversation about the budget, Kaloyan Metodiev outlined three negative processes that are currently observed in the economy: industrial production has been declining for 20 months, foreign investments are down 55%, exports are shrinking dramatically. “Therefore, the budget now must stimulate economic growth, stabilize, compensate for the fact that Germany is entering a recession – and it is our main trading partner. At the same time, in this situation, the government is introducing a budget that has three characteristics: it is anti-social, anti-private sector and anti-civil liberties. For the first time, we have a budget that freezes pensions – yes, after public reaction they backed down, Boyko Borisov changed his mind in an hour. But the freezing of maternity benefits remained – this is a blow to young families, unemployment benefits, the disabled. Against this background, we have a 12% increase in MP salaries. In 3 years – a rainbow spiral of 17 billion. Borisov's main badge has always been: I guarantee stability, financial discipline has always been leading for me. At one point, social policy and the private sector are hit“, the political scientist pointed out.

And more: “The budget contains brutal violations of civil rights and freedoms. In addition to recording the license plate number of every car at a gas station, the budget for DATO, for wiretapping, is increasing by 80% “.

Asked whether salaries in the Ministry of Interior Salaries in the Ministry of Interior should be raised, he replied: “Yes, but not in this way, but against reforms and efficiency. One cannot do it at the expense of the other, we see that the security services are being stimulated, the budget of the Supreme Judicial Council is being increased - at the same time, there are no measures for small and medium-sized businesses, for the private sector, where the money should come from to boost the economy, to have growth and from there to come money for pensions, for social policy“.

“What is being done at the moment is an anti-national budget. I am categorical that it is being done with a specific purpose – instilling fear in order to maintain this rule in the long term through repressive control instruments“, said Metodiev and gave an example of recording the license plate number of every car that filled up with fuel at the gas station: who, when and where they filled up.

“This reminds me a lot of Orwell's 1984. The so-called “clubs” at one point find themselves usurped by this ruling majority. Which already has even fascist characteristics – one of the parties in the ruling coalition directly writes in its program documents that it is against the protests“, said Kaloyan Metodiev, referring to the BSP and pointed out:

„In the speech of their chairman Zafirov, we heard that Cornelia Ninova had made the party anti-corruption and protest - somehow, this was not the BSP and the BSP should return to its authentic policy. This is an exact quote. What is the opposite of anti-corruption and protest? Well, protest is, par excellence, the genesis of the left. This is also a civil right, defined in our Constitution. To try to ban it and condemn it in a program speech, and not in one place. Entire passages. To ban protest is unconstitutional and anti-democratic. There is no other party that rests on pro-corruption policy. And here it is written in a document“, commented the political scientist.

Asked if he agreed with Georgi Kadiev's words that Boyko Borisov and Delyan Peevski took the BSP for a promotion, Kaloyan Metodiev replied:

“Categorically. For many years they cultivated an internal opposition in the BSP. They took it the way the UDF was taken. In 2005, Borisov did not have a party, and he ended up with a majority in the Sofia Municipal Council when he took the municipal councilors of the UDF, he bought them then. On Sofianski, “Gergyovden“ and there were some other independents. First he took over the Sofia organization, then he took the UDF and hooked them up as part of the parliamentary group, he killed this party“. In the same way, the BSP and many other formations from the entire spectrum were taken over.

He was categorical: “Kornelia Ninova was the obstacle to this happening (and with the BSP, ed. note). That is why, by dropping her result, a huge media scum was poured on her before every election. A certain Elena Yoncheva, today an MEP from the DPS-Peevski party, would come out and say before every election: Kornelia Ninova will form a coalition with GERB. What scum and lies were poured on me. And all those who spat, today their first job was to put together a government with Boyko Borisov and that SDS that I was talking about. Here they are, the same spitters. Where are they? What did they say and lie about? But, I will emphasize again: they are no longer so interesting, they are now just a key holder in the new vision for the state, which is currently being put forward by Borisov and Peevski“, Kaloyan Metodiev pointed out.
