The attacker who tried to kill the writer Salman Rushdie in 2022 was convicted, NOVA reported.
The 77-year-old author was stabbed repeatedly with a knife on stage, minutes before he was to give a lecture in New York. The attack took place in front of the entire audience.
In the attack, Rushdie lost his right eye, undergoing emergency surgery and recovering for months. The British writer is an atheist, was born into a Muslim family in India, but has been the subject of dozens of death threats since the publication of his novel “The Satanic Verses“ in 1988.
The attacker is Hadi Matar. He was found guilty by the jury after less than two hours of deliberation.
