"Vazrazhdane": All detainees have clean criminal records - 1

The deputy chairman of the parliamentary group of "Vazrazhdane" Petar Petrov revealed details about the five detainees after the protest against the introduction of the euro. At a briefing in front of the building of the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office (SPO), he confirmed that all those arrested have clean criminal records.

Among those detained is a 17-year-old student and four adults. "They have a permanent address, there is no possibility that they will hide, there is no reasonable assumption that they will commit another similar act, given that they participated in a protest and the prosecutor's office claims that they may have thrown paint at a building," said Petar Petrov.

Sofia Deputy District Prosecutor Atanas Dotsinski announced that the five have been brought as defendants for hooligan acts with particular audacity and cynicism. Some of the charges include resisting an authority in front of the headquarters of the European Parliament and the European Commission.

Petar Petrov expressed concern about the detention procedure. "The humiliation of Bulgarian citizens to be stripped to their underwear and held for hours in their underwear does not meet any legal criteria", he stressed, adding that according to the law, the investigator must first call to bring clothes.

The detention measures will be considered tomorrow morning.
