There is no normal person or political force that would not condemn such behavior. It is one thing to have a debate within a democratic society, it is quite another to fight police officers and burn down buildings of European institutions. This is unacceptable.
This is how economist and former Minister of State Administration and Economy Nikolay Vassilev commented on the show "120 minutes" yesterday's protest with provocations, injuries and violence in front of the representation of the European institutions.
"For me, the problem is not that there are people who express their opinion on some issue, but that 16 governments, after Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha signed a treaty for entry into the European Union in 2005, have not made any effort to explain why Bulgaria's good future is in the eurozone", added the economist.
„The benefits of our entry into the eurozone will be many, disadvantages - none“, Vassilev categorically emphasized and highlighted the advantages of Bulgaria's membership in the EU.
„The first group is - investments, trade, enrichment. The second - better banking supervision. The case of „Corporation Bank“ would not have happened if we were under the supervision of the European Central Bank. The third - greater prestige and authority. Do we want to be a first-class country or two-faced and incompetent people“, he asked.
Nikolai Vassilev is convinced that speculation and inflation can occur anywhere - the biggest last month was in Hungary, which is not in the eurozone and it is not fair to associate its adoption with it, the former deputy prime minister is categorical.
“We, having not introduced the euro, why do we have high prices in January“, he also asked and added that in the last 28 years with a currency board, we have not had a single year in which salaries have not risen by a percentage above inflation.
“People who are against it are not patriots. They are not greater patriots than me. They are not better economists, in fact – they are not economists at all. "These are people who are against Bulgaria being part of Western civilization in principle. These people were against joining NATO and the EU, against the introduction of the currency board, against the eurozone, against Schengen and against everything," added Vassilev.
