We are entering 2025 with a possible, real and socially responsible budget, so that there is no possibility of entire groups being put at risk of social exclusion. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Assembly of the BSP Atanas Zafirov to the Bulgarian National Radio.
According to him, the budget seeks the best possible balance with the resources available to the state. “Our request to be the social vector in this government is already being fulfilled with our intervention to protect the increase in pensions. The joint management understands the importance of social payments, but we are currently in a stalemate and with Budget 2025 we must guarantee the survival of the state,” Zafirov pointed out.
He explained that Bulgaria has long been in a Currency Board and the lev is tied to the euro. According to him, the lack of an effective campaign on the issue of our entry into the eurozone opens a wide field for the irresponsibility of "Vazrazhdane".
"The adoption of the euro is a strategic goal of this government. The date of January 1, 2026 is real and achievable, but only if it is acceptable to society. That is why it is very important to work to calm public fears and for Bulgarian citizens to know that this process will not hit their pockets and their well-being”, Atanas Zafirov was categorical.
The socialist also said that he is for any referendum, as long as it is not manipulative, does not speculate on the fears of Bulgarian citizens and is legal.
According to him, the horizon of the government is a full 4-year mandate, and it is necessary for sensible and reasonable political parties with experience to be in government, since “projects and militant patriots can break the state”.
“In the BSP, we will continue the process of returning the party to political, economic and social realities. We want to formulate a new horizon for the development of the left. The BSP no longer has a leader, but a chairman who is first among equals and embodies the collective spirit of the party”, commented Atanas Zafirov.
Regarding the war in Ukraine, the BSP chairman drew attention to the fact that the topic of peace has already been officially put on the table - something that the Bulgarian left has been talking about for a long time.
“Bulgaria can have a fruitful role both in achieving this peace and in the next process of rebuilding Ukraine. In the declaration that we adopted in the National Assembly and at our insistence, we are categorical that we will not send soldiers in any form. This is a message not only to Bulgarian society, but also to our partners and allies, which, however, does not change Bulgaria's stable positions in the region, both as a member of the EU and as a member of NATO," Atanas Zafirov emphasized.
"Bulgarians should know that it is not they or the lev that are important for “Vazrazhdane”. A few months ago, they claimed that after our entry into Schengen, Bulgaria would become the largest refugee camp in the world - has anything like that happened? It is the same now. These scarecrows they are bringing out serve only their narrow party interests,” the Deputy Prime Minister pointed out.
