"In recent days, sparks have been flying between Kiev and Washington. It is characteristic of the entire Trump administration that qualifications and labels are often used, which periodically change. This is a style of behavior. It remains to be seen first how the Ukrainian-American negotiations and relations will proceed and how this will be reflected in the larger issue - the negotiations on the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine".
This was stated by former Deputy Foreign Minister Lyubomir Kyuchukov in the program "Denyat ON AIR".
"For now, both Russia and the US are sending signals that they want to resolve the issues between themselves with the involvement and participation of Ukraine at a certain stage, for now rather with the presence of the EU - also at a certain stage. There are two reasons why Europe is not present in the negotiations. The first is that the US and Russia prefer to solve this problem between themselves. The second is that for years Europe has not been able to formulate its own ideas and a way to conclude this issue," Kyuchukov explained to Bulgaria ON AIR.
In the words of the former Deputy Foreign Minister, there is a risk that the talks will "remain an episode".
"It is important whether and when there will be a Putin-Trump meeting, which has been talked about for some time. If such a meeting takes place, it will be evidence that this framework for the negotiations has been agreed. They would not meet to say that they did not agree. Ukraine is not actively participating in the talks at the moment. This is a serious problem," Kyuchukov believes.
He pointed out that it is difficult to hold elections in Ukraine in conditions of military conflict, but this cannot be a problem for the negotiations.
"It was obvious that Ukraine could not become a member of NATO under these conditions. Speaking about NATO forces that could be deployed on the territory of Ukraine - this seems unrealistic at this stage. There is a chance that military actions will be stopped. In conditions of war, corruption is everywhere - this applies to both Russia and Ukraine," Kyuchukov said.
According to the former Deputy Foreign Minister, it is alarming that Europe views its security solely as military, as the security of additional armament.
