Tsvetlin Yovchev: There will be a danger from Russia in a few years! The services must increase their capacity immediately - 1

Bulgaria must first form a realistic view of the world, as we are currently not prepared. This opinion was expressed in the studio of "Nova TV" by Tsvetlin Yovchev, former head of DANS. For three years, he has consistently explained that the Bulgarian services are not prepared and need to be seriously modernized, and today he stated directly: It is necessary to increase the capacity of the services now and immediately.

Tsvetlin Yovchev emphasized that we must develop possible scenarios for threats to our country and respond adequately now and with preparation.

"Not now, but in a few years a realistic danger to Bulgaria and Europe from Russia will exist and we must be prepared for this", said the former head of the National Security Agency, quoted by news.bg.

The current concern has been caused by the very great dynamics in the world and the sharp change, sometimes diametrically opposed, in the messages of American policy.

There are three objects of concern before the world community, which also apply to Bulgaria. The problem is the clear statement of the American administration that they will not make a serious commitment to the security of Europe and no commitment to the security of Ukraine. Which leads to a weakening of the Atlantic bond, which is the basis of NATO, analyzes Yovchev.

He also noted that the approach of the US administration to ending the war in Ukraine is disturbing. "Trump promised everything Putin wanted. He has a condescending position towards Moscow and a brutal, aggressive one towards his allies. This is an invitation to continue the invasion of the West."

The third object of concern, according to Yovchev, is the too frequent change of position of the US administration, which demonstrates that "there is no clear position and a well-prepared plan."

However, he pointed out that one should not forget that America without the support of Europe will not be able to achieve its goals.

It is normal that there is still no clarified Bulgarian position, because the dynamics are too great, and the sharp change in the world requires consideration and analysis. The question is whether these analyses should be made, questioned Tsvetlin Yovchev.

In this context, the former head of the National Security Agency also commented on the Declaration on not sending Bulgarian soldiers to the front in Ukraine voted yesterday in parliament. According to him, it is "absolutely unnecessary", because no one asked us for anything. At the same time, this declaration raises questions about our position towards and in the alliances in which we participate: "As a member of NATO, if we expect to receive protection from the pact when we are the subject of an attack, then in any case we must do so, if this applies to another country. If the Alliance is involved in a war, we cannot hesitate whether to take part in it or not. We simply have commitments."
