MPs propose reducing speed on roads - 1

MPs are discussing legal changes, with one of the proposed measures being a reduction in the maximum speed on roads, bTV reported.

There are six draft laws proposed to fight the war on the roads. Two of them are at the Council of Ministers, and it is there that the measure to reduce the speed on highways from 140 to 130 km/h is enshrined. The idea was presented by the submitters from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

„The values of the maximum permitted speed for movement in a settlement, outside a settlement - on a highway, a motorway are regulated in detail. I also draw attention to the proposed change related to the reduction of the permitted speed on the highway from 140 to 130 kilometers per hour, because there is a higher rate of injuries," said Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Toni Todorov.

The parties also presented their ideas for reducing road mortality.

“A large part of serious accidents are caused by excessive or inappropriate speed. A large part of accidents are preventable“, said the former mayor of Sofia from GERB Yordanka Fandakova.

The PP-DB proposed that sufficient data be published on all repeat offenders.

“Detailed data should also be published on road transport accidents, what type they are and how many injured. And data on the undelivered and unpaid tickets, as they are a huge percentage,“ said Bozhidar Bozhanov.

“The feeling remains that only if we fine, fine, fine - we will stop the war on the roads“, believes Nikola Dimitrov from “Vazrazhdane“.

“By raising the fines and collecting these fines - this is one of the ways to solve the problem“, said Kalin Stoyanov from “DPS-New Beginning“.

The PP-DB also proposes not to take away drivers' licenses only on the basis of field tests. The changes to the Road Traffic Act are supported by all parties in parliament.
