After the fatal accident in Pleven, in which 12-year-old Siyana died and her grandfather was seriously injured, the court decided to leave the tractor-trailer driver who swept their car under permanent arrest. The institutions also reacted after the tragedy, Nova TV reports.
The decision of the Pleven District Court
The driver of the tractor-trailer that swept a car with a child on the road between the villages of Telish and Radomirtsi remains permanently in custody, the Pleven District Court decided. The driver has already been brought to criminal liability for an accident causing the death of a child and danger to the life of another. The driver's alcohol and drug tests were negative.
„He says that he did not feel the moment of impact, but after he got off the road and stopped the truck, he saw what had happened and found out“, explained the supervising prosecutor in the case Diana Mitskanova.
The Pleven District Prosecutor's Office has undertaken to establish the condition of the road, check the reports submitted regarding the section and what actions were taken on them. This was announced by the authorities, specifying that they are aware of the frequent accidents on the relevant section.
„The city prosecutor's office will do everything possible to clarify the factual situation, and accordingly, to apply the law as is correct and fair“, they specified.
According to the prosecutor's office, the driver was convicted years ago for driving without a license and under the influence of alcohol. However, according to the prosecutors, the incident took place years ago and the man has been rehabilitated, according to Bulgarian law.
„Until when will only the direct perpetrators be punished for these crimes, in this case the problem is much bigger. And no one here is responsible - the people who are responsible for roads, markings, safety“, pointed out the driver's lawyer Mihail Penev.
“The initial accusation is a working one, it is necessary to carry out a whole complex of the investigation. In such cases, forensic auto-technical, forensic medical examinations, witness interrogations and repeated examinations are necessary. After that, we will move on to specifying the legal qualification of the act“, the prosecutor's office explained.
