It is strange that we have not built a highway in Northern Bulgaria for so many years. „Hemus“ is very necessary to build, it can no longer be postponed. This huge traffic must be redirected onto the highway.“
This was stated on the show „This Saturday“ by road expert Diana Rusinova. According to her, the repair of the Botevgrad-Mezdra road is the reason for all traffic being redirected to the I-3 republican road.
"The Botevgrad-Mezdra road, which was stopped dozens of times, caused the major delay. This road passes through a very difficult section. And while it is being built there, the traffic has nowhere else to be redirected. This has led to the incredible load on the Yablanitsa-Byala road. It has not been overhauled for years, the asphalt is extremely worn out. We have a total of 12 signals for the entire section", she also commented.
According to her, the rules are violated daily on the roads – not only by drivers, but also by their owners. As an example, she gave the vegetation along the roadway, which is not maintained, and visibility depends on it.
„On the road near Telish, where the serious accident occurred, I suspect that there is also a problem with the adhesion of the asphalt. Because on such a busy road, even if the asphalt is new, it wears out extremely much. I also suspect that there may be problems with the transverse slopes of the road. On Tuesday, when we do our detailed inspection, we will be able to say a little more, because these things cannot be determined by eye“, Rusinova also stated.
According to her, there are no errors in the radii of the turns, although it is possible.
„Design errors happen and it is possible that errors were made in the radii of turns decades ago. Therefore, when we prepare our report, we will provide it to all institutions. However, I assume that there is no wrong radius. Rather, it is about the transverse and longitudinal slopes, which are responsible for drainage. These roads were designed according to old standards. Most likely, the design speed of the road is 80 km/h. This means that the maximum speed of the road is 110, 120 km/h.“, Diana Rusinova further explained.
