Investigators took samples of the asphalt on the Pleven - Botevgrad road, where the terrible accident occurred, in which 12-year-old Siyana died. In parallel, the road's condition was checked by the European Center for Transport Policies, and they found violations that are dangerous for travelers.
„The results are worrying, the adhesion is not in good condition where there are patches. The old asphalt meets the standards, and it dates from 1975. The problem is with the patches, the grip is 20 units lower than the asphalt on the main route“, said Diana Rusinova from the European Center for Transport Policies.
According to her, there should be a requirement that when a patch is made, it should be the same as the main asphalt.
Another very serious problem found in the section with the tragic accident with a child is that the markings are not visible at night.
“They are very bad, the light reflectivity is beyond all criticism. It does not shine at night and this is visible even without devices. Separately, we found in places along the route that there is a risk of the road collapsing. This also applies to many other road sections in the country“, Rusinova also said.
She explained that there are serious problems with signs in places.
The securing of 36 critical road arteries in the country begins today. The cabinet's goal is to reduce the number of deaths and injuries on the roads by 20%.
