The reforms that Bulgaria is undertaking to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) are just as important for our country as membership itself. This was stated by President Rumen Radev at a meeting with OECD Secretary-General Matthias Kormann, the head of state's press office reported. The two spoke today within the framework of the Delphi Economic Forum.
President Radev stressed that Bulgaria's accession to the OECD is a key foreign policy goal for our country, for the achievement of which all responsible institutions are consistently working. Bulgaria has already completed 11 of the planned 25 reviews of its accession to the OECD and is working to successfully complete the remaining ones by the end of the year.
Secretary-General Matthias Kormann stated, for his part, that he shares the assessment of Bulgaria's good progress and noted that all three EU member states applying for OECD membership have the opportunity to finalize their reviews by the end of the year. He confirmed that the OECD Secretariat will continue to support the countries applying for membership within its capabilities.
During the meeting, assessments were exchanged on the dynamic processes in the world and a common assessment was expressed that the tariff war, which is escalating with each passing day, will inevitably have social and economic consequences.
Today, President Rumen Radev is scheduled to make a statement to the participants in the event, and later to meet with his Greek counterpart, President Konstantinos Thassoulas. The head of state is about to talk to business representatives.
