Alexander Nikolov: The contract with "Botas" bankrupts "Bulgargaz"

Such historical stupidity rarely happens

By May 2, the possibilities for improving the positions of the parties to the gas agreement with "Botas" will be considered.

"Such historical stupidity very rarely happens and very rarely the damage caused by one contract is of such magnitude. The data on whether the contract was used is visible in the financial report of "Bulgargaz" for 2023. From September 2022 onwards, the company has been losing market share at a very rapid pace, generating huge losses. In fact, the company has gone bankrupt.

This was revealed by former Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov in the studio of "Denyat ON AIR".

"How is it possible for someone who has a horizon of 3 months to sign for 169 months without consulting the parliament? In a parliamentary republic, you make decisions for 60 times outside your mandate. Whenever I am called to parliament, I will appear because I know what data I left and whether this contract was necessary. Where did "Bulgargaz" put the loss on the contract with "Botaş" in external services in its financial statements?, Nikolov asked.

He is of the opinion that we will be paying the consequences for a long time to come. "As it became clear, when you harm Bulgaria, you harm Europe. If Bulgarian institutions do not work, European institutions come and start asking questions that no one here dares to ask. The changes to the Chiren expansion begin, by chance or not so by chance, at the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023. We must very carefully examine who signed what, how this affects the financial and technical implementation. We are in a very sad picture at the moment", added Alexander Nikolov.

"In 2022, Bulgaria showed Europe how it can deal with its energy problems, no matter how arrogant it may sound. During the war and with all its inherited problems, Bulgaria was the first in terms of growth in industrial production. Let's not forget that the "Energy" sector is part of this growth and we export to every country around us, and we balanced the entire region", recalled the former Minister of Energy.

He emphasized that every contract has two sides, and "Botaş" has done its part perfectly. "Bulgaria loses billions in the "Energy" sector every year, with one rare exception, for which I thank my team. Then he did the impossible. It took some people 3 years to see the financial results in the system. At first, many people claimed that they would renegotiate for "Botaş".

It is not the Turkish side's fault, it is the Bulgarian side's job to preserve its national interest", Nikolov added on the air of Bulgaria ON AIR.
