From the parliamentary rostrum, representatives of "Continuing Change-Democratic Bulgaria" (PP-DB) sharply criticized GERB, which has been refusing to consider a declaration condemning the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine for two months now. Yavor Bozhankov from PP-DB asked a direct question to the ruling party: "What exactly worries you and why do you refuse to take an indisputable position?", BTA reported.
The proposed declaration calls for accelerating reforms in the security sector to eliminate Russian influence in Bulgaria. According to Bozhankov, the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine is not just a regional conflict, but represents a direct threat to the security of Europe and Bulgaria.
"In proposing to support this declaration together, we took into account the numerous testimonies of war crimes such as the extermination of civilians in Bucha, the strikes in recent days with ballistic missiles, including against civilians, kindergartens, the attacks on the energy system of Ukraine, which constitute pure terror", states the text presented by the opposition.
The PP-DB claims that against the backdrop of the ongoing war, GERB has decided to restore the Belene NPP instead of selling the equipment on mutually beneficial terms for Bulgaria and Ukraine. According to the opposition, the BSP continues to treat Russia as a "friendly country", while GERB no longer "sees no problem in this".
"Bulgaria has become famous as a cradle of Russian agents, allegations of contacts at a high political level have appeared, in Bulgaria they have not found sanctions and a response", Bojankov added in his statement.
The PP-DB representative specified that the proposed declaration refers to a resolution of the European Parliament of November 21, 2022, which designates the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism. "With this decision, we aim to show solidarity with an indisputable position of the European Parliament," Yavor Bojankov emphasized.
