On the second day of Easter, thousands of believers from all over the country head to the Bachkovo Monastery to participate in the traditional procession with the miraculous icon of the Holy Mother of God.
By tradition, every year a copy of it is taken out of the monastery and will be carried by worshipers to the place where it was found. The wreath with which the icon is adorned was woven by 90-year-old aunt Lyuba, who comes from Sofia. She shares that God gives her the energy to participate. And she assures that from personal experience the icon really fulfills wishes.
Every year, pilgrims from all over the country join the procession, and the most enduring and convinced of the faith take turns as carriers of the holy image. The procession continues along a 5-kilometer path through the mountains, from the monastery to the area of "Kluviata", where the holy icon was hidden and saved from destruction. They say that on the second day of the Resurrection the miracle of the icon is the greatest.
The procession takes place on the second day of Easter, because 400 years ago the icon was found in the rocks of the Rhodope area. For several years now, a copy of the miraculous image has been carried in the procession, while the original is kept on a separate iconostasis in the Bachkovo Monastery.
