2780 leva becomes the minimum wage for the lowest academic position in state higher education institutions. In this way, the currently valid wage increases by 264 leva, which is an increase of 10.5%.
The new salaries in universities were agreed today between the Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev and the two nationally representative trade unions in the field of higher education. The meeting at the Ministry of Education and Science was attended by the chairman of the National Branch Trade Union “Higher Education and Science“ at the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions, Prof. Lilyana Valcheva, and the chairman of the Trade Union “Higher Education“- CT “Podkrepa“ Valeri Apostolov.
A salary increase has also been agreed for employees who support research work and artistic and creative activities in higher education institutions. The salaries for those of them who have a higher education will be 2,223 leva, and for the rest with a secondary education - 1,780 leva. Currently, their salaries are 2,013 leva and 1,610 leva, respectively.
In order to implement the agreed increase, the government today approved a decree that increases the standards for the maintenance of one student in professional fields and the quality assessment in higher education institutions and the realization on the labor market.
The increase will also guarantee the requirements set out in the Higher Education Act for achieving the average gross salary of the academic staff in state higher education institutions of no less than 180% of the average gross salary for the country.
