Todor Kapitanov: Bulgarian legislation does not allow a nationwide strike - 1

In Bulgaria, the legislation is so arranged that a nationwide strike cannot be held. This was explained to the Bulgarian National Radio by the vice president of the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions (CITUB), Todor Kapitanov.

In recent years, the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions (CITUB) has organized about 70 protests, but they are in separate sectors, he pointed out. In his words, everyone must fight tooth and nail for their survival and their decent remuneration.

"Protests happen, but when it comes to national ones, there should be a common idea that unites workers."

Today, the union is organizing an online reception through its podcast, where consultations will be held and questions and signals can be sent.

"There is a dispute in society and among lawyers about which law is violated the most - whether the Labor Code or the Road Traffic Act," Kapitanov commented on the program "Above All".

There are also very good employers - with care for people, good pay, healthy working conditions, the unionist specified. Over half of the violations found by the Labor Inspectorate are related to healthy and safe working conditions, he added.

One of the main problems facing the world of work at the moment is the introduction of artificial intelligence, said Todor Kapitanov.

The Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions (CITUB) is categorically against increasing the retirement age at this stage, explained the vice president of the union.

"The issue of seniority and age is not among those that the CITUB will support."

1,550 leva should be the minimum living wage, according to CITUB data.
